Dial-Up vs. DSL Dial-up service is a communication technology that allows you to connect your computer via your telephone line and a computer modem, usually a 56 Kbps modem, so that you can access the Internet. To make your connection to the Internet, you must dial a phone number. The connection is ended when the caller hangs up. Dial-up service tends to have a rather sluggish speed.
DSL does not require a dial-up. Once your business has installed DSL, your service is "always on" and you're always connected. DSL is about 20 times faster than dial-up service.
